Student Housing Master Plan

In November 2017, Hanbury was engaged by Carleton University to develop a market and demand analysis as the first phase of a Residence Master Plan process. The scope of Phase 1 was to develop a cohesive vision for student housing at Carleton that included input from a broad cross section of campus stakeholders, an analysis of six of Carleton’s peer institutions with respect to percent housed, types of units offered, pricing structure and programmatic offerings and a student survey measuring satisfaction with their current housing whether on or off campus and snap shot of demand across class years including first year, upper year and graduate students.

Hanbury worked with Consumer Research Index (CRi) who developed and managed the student survey and provided the elasticity analysis. Phase 2 of the study included an examination of existing residences, recommendations for renovation to improve sense community and to provide more study space, options for new construction, implementation scenarios and a financial plan.
