223 S. Wilmington Street

Located in a 100-year-old historic building in the heart of downtown Raleigh, NC, this 3,000-square-foot reimagined office space is a beautiful example of a thoughtful and historically sensitive design, successfully executed in order to create a meaningful dialogue between the existing, historic architecture and the needs of a modern design-focused practice. The existing exterior walls, beams and wood floors remained unaltered, and several large new skylights lining the entire central spine flood the space with natural light. Hyper-modern interiors, finishes and brightly colored furniture finish the space and reflect Hanbury’s creative, friendly, collaborative and design-driven ethos.

Additional features include:
  • Garage door between the main conference room and collaboration area to encourage larger group gatherings and provide flexibility
  • Pin-up space to promote and encourage project critiques
  • Large area rugs instead of glue-down carpet to avoid the need to remove or re-work any of the existing 100-year-old wood floors
  • A makerspace to produce high quality models
