Virginia Design Medalist
Since 2004, we have sought to nurture and stimulate design talent by recognizing distinguished members of architecture, planning, and design academia and inviting them to engage with our staff for several weeks during the summer. Our Virginia Design Medal is awarded to the medalist each year, along with an honorarium, travel and lodging expenses.
Participation in this program represents an opportunity for Hanbury to benefit from an academic assessment of its work, and an opportunity for professors to step back into practitioners' world. Honorees spend several weeks with the firm as designers on current projects, critiquing work, and delivering lectures, both formal and informal. (One lecture is open to members of the regional AIA, providing additional dialogue between the theoretical and practical sides of design.)
Send all to Robert V. Reis, AIA: Cover letter explaining what you can contribute and what you think you will gain from the experience; resume; and an electronic representation of your design work, research and academic focus (not to exceed 15MB)
